a new year + a clutter free approach

Hello 2012!  We’ve gotten off to a good start.

A burst of motivation hit me at the beginning of the month (yes, 12 days ago!).  I realized that our small house will NOT get any bigger.  We will NOT add any closets.

After realizing what will NOT happen in 2012, I decided what I WAS going to do about it.  For Christmas, I asked for several books.    One of the books was, Organized Simplicity: The Clutter Free Approach to Intentional Living.   Once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down.   It was just the perfect motivation to GET rid of clutter!  Because remember my realization that our house is not spontaneously going to grow closets.

Box after box was loaded up and hauled out!  That jewelry box that I’ve moved about six times, rarely use and really don’t like was sent to a local consignment store.  The sweater that never really looked that great and was taking up precious closet space was out of here!  Toys that are rarely touched said their goodbyes.  And the most amazing thing started to happen.  The house got bigger.  You see, all those “things” that I thought I needed were actually making my life more complicated.

The author gives a ten-day plan with step by step directions to organize every room in your house!  She even gives recipes for cleaning products, shampoo, deodorant and face cleaner.  I’m currently working through my cleaners and then excited to give the recipes a try.

Here’s to a new year, less clutter and keeping it simple!

In the book, the author gives this quote from William Morris: “Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.” I used this as my basis for what I wanted to “keep” in our house. Once you look around with that idea in mind it becomes more clear.

      You can do it!
